Bound

Installation, 2004.
National Botanic Garden of Wales, Carmarthenshire.

This first 'Bound' tree was conceived for the National Botanic Garden of Wales as part of the exhibition Explorations , an exhibition of temporary site specific artwork by 11 international artists.

The exhibition ran from July - November 2003 and was organised jointly with the public art agency in Wales Cywaith Cymru . Artworks Wales. The chance to work in such a specific and unique space that is the Botanic Gardens saw an exploration and development also of my working practice. This was the first time I had made work specificially for the natural environment.

At the time I noted that ego must diminish in this haven and the new interventions that I brought to the gardens were born from the beginnings of a dialogue with nature and my place and relationship within it.
